No one knows how to ride cross country better than the Irish! Born and bred to hunt and tackle difficult terrain, the Irish horse is the perfect teacher for anyone interested in trying their skills in the field.
A cross country holiday is designed for the experienced equestrian who may have limited to no experience with cross country jumping. We help you transfer the skills you have learned in the arena to the field. Flatwork focuses on establishing a canter rhythm suitable for cross country and maintaining the rider's balance over uneven and/or mucky footing. Jumping instruction is centered on riding different types of obstacles such as banks, drops, water combinations, ditches and more. Riders must wear body protectors whenever they are on the cross country course.
The week begins with an assessment and lesson in the sand arena the first day. The remainder of the week riders participate in 2 sessions of cross country riding and instruction per day. The availability of the course and length of time spent on it varies and depends on the rider's fitness and the conditions of the course. Combine a cross country holiday with English Language instruction from the Shannonside Language Centre.
